Paul Ritsche

Assistent / Doktorand (Abt. Motorischeleistung & Biomechanik)

Since completing his Master’s degree from the University of Basel in 2022, Paul works at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel. He started his PhD in 2023 with a focus on how muscle geometry (i.e., muscle mass) reflects muscle function and a particular interest in optimizing the  automated analysis of muscle geometry from ultrasound images. He is the main developer of the open-source tools DL_Track_US and DeepACSA, supporting reproducible and accessible muscle ultrasonography image analysis. His recent work includes the use of 3D ultrasound for muscle volume reconstruction and modeling, building an open source data based for musculoskeletal ultrasonography images and collaborating on an openly available algorithm for high-density electromyography analysis (openhdemg). Paul is also involved in teaching biomechanics and motor control and is an active member of several reproducibility and open science communities.
